About Us
Optical Eyeworks was founded by Ali Merali an optician with 22 years’ experience and a graduate from Georgian College Optician Program.
The team includes:
Dr. Vick Chan: Dr. Vick Chan is a 2010 graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry. As of that year, he has been an active member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists and College of Optometrists of Ontario. In addition, he holds a Bachelor of Arts with a Concentration in Medical Sciences from the University of Western Ontario.
Dr. Chan has worked in various externships throughout the U.S. allowing him to gain extensive experience in diagnosing and managing ocular diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. In Connecticut, he completed his externship at the West Haven Veteran Affairs Medical Center, where he specialized in low vision rehabilitation. He further developed his clinical skills in Pediatrics and Vision Therapy Rehabilitation in New Jersey. Lastly, he was in North Carolina, where he gained extensive knowledge on different contacts lenses, including orthokeratology. These different externships have allowed Dr. Chan to cater his optometric examination to any and every patient.
In 2010, he was honoured with the induction into the Gold Key International Optometric Honor Society by his fellow colleagues; an award given to those who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and service throughout their optometry school career. Dr. Chan is fluent in both English and Cantonese, and is currently in the process of improving his Mandarin.
In his spare time, he enjoys volunteering in International mission trips – he has been to Mexico for a two week trip in 2009, and more recently went to Morant Bay, Jamaica in the summer of 2012. He has also completed the Toronto Waterfront Marathon in 2012, is an avid fan of Toronto’s sports teams and the local diversity of ethnic foods.
